Maserati

Maserati: luxury sports cars of unmatched design, customized services, a passion for excellence, and an extreme attention to detail.

Maserati is an Italian exotic luxury car manufacturer established in 1914, in Bologna, Italy. Maserati's headquarters is currently in Modena, Italy. It was owned by the Italian car giant Fiat S.p.A. since 1993. Inside the Fiat Group, Maserati was initially associated with Ferrari S.p.A., but more recently it has become part of the sports car group including Alfa Romeo.

In 1997, Fiat Auto sold a 50% share in the company to Maserati's long-time rival, Ferrari. In 1999 Ferrari took full control, making Maserati its luxury division. A new Maserati factory was built, replacing the existing vintage facility. Ferrari is often credited for bringing Maserati back into business after nearly going going bankrupt.

In 2005 Maserati was split off from Ferrari and merged with Alfa Romeo under Fiat Auto Group.  Maserati sold 2,006 cars in the United States in 2005, 2,108 in 2006, and 2,540 in 2007.  Maserati made a net profit for the first time in 17 years, in the second quarter of 2007, under the Fiat Group ownership.
